What is the French Tarot Club @ Chez Lulu / Montparnasse?

No, we are not talking about a fortune-teller group here, but a genuine French card game club! French Tarot is the second most popular card game in France and our aim is to make it popular in Sydney (or at least, @ Montparnasse!).

The idea is to bring together French food and French Tarot card game lovers twice a month @ Montparnasse (usually on the 2nd and last Saturdays of each month). It is a great way to have fun and meet new people!

When was it created?
I (Audrey Roby) am a huge fan of tarot. I’ve always organised some tarot parties at home and as this was getting more and more popular and as my apartment was not getting any bigger, we started playing in a French Crêperie in November 2009. In August 2011 we moved to the French Restaurant Montparnasse.

How is it played?
French Tarot is a trick-taking game in which the partnerships vary from hand to hand. It is most commonly played by four players but it is also common for five to play. Depending on the number of players, we will have tables of 4 and/or 5 players.

Here's how we do it:
• Players arrive at 6.30pm or you contact or Audrey to arrange for an earlier meeting if you have never played before
• Players dine until 8pm
• Recap on the French Tarot rules
• Game starts at 8.30pm until late

Who can play?
The French Tarot Club @ Montparnasse is open to everyone (all levels). More importantly, you do not have to be French or speak French to play with us!

Where do we play?
We play in a cosy and relaxing French bistro style café restaurant conveniently located in Randwick opposite the Ritz cinema. Parking is available opposite the restaurant. Our address is : 30 St Pauls Street, Randwick 2031.

When do we play?
We usually play twice a month, on a Saturday evening.

How much does it cost?
Nothing, no entry fee! The French Tarot meal deal features one entrée + a main OR one main and a dessert + a soft drink or glass of wine for $30 (for the menu, see http://www.montparnasse.com.au/). The winner of the night will get a complimentary meal from Montparnasse!
